Something happened last week.
I rolled into bed around 9:30 after getting the kids in bed and couldn't make myself get up...
Not even when our toddler cried out for "mama, mama".
Not even knowing Greg was in a meeting and that I was on duty for the kids.
Not even the next morning.
Not even with our two year old climbing on me and bringing me all the lip balms (pictured :).
Not even mid-morning.
Not even by 11:00am.
To be honest, it scared me. To suddenly lose the will to do anything was unsettling. I felt unproductive, and ashamed for being unproductive. I was afraid I might feel this way for a long time.
A saving grace? A month ago I'd called it.
Am I clairvoyant? No - I just have a predictable menstrual cycle and use Google Calendar. 😄
This calendar reminder I set for myself in November gave me a glimmer of hope that there was a reason I'd lost my will to do anything.
But it wasn't until my period actually started that I felt a sense of relief.
And I got out of bed.
4 Takeaways from the Time I Couldn't Get Out of Bed
I'm not a medical professional, but do coach with clients with diagnoses of anxiety and seasonal affective disorder to help them feel as good as they can in their current season of life.
We focus on what they DO have control over, figure out what they really want, and break everything down into practical, do-able mini steps.
(For example, a client with seasonal affective disorder worked with me to realize she wanted to seek out warmth and light during the winter. She designed outings and experiences for herself to feel cozy and connected to loved ones during a typically hard time. And of course she was under the care of her doctor while working with me.)

Despite grief, breakdowns, and (to be honest) a lot of phone scrolling in bed, 2020 was an incredible year for me and Brave Self Care.
From self care workshops, being interviewed, coaching a record number of clients, offering complimentary coaching to Black moms, and even speaking to a global audience, my work to help you feel happier, calm, and recharged gave me a positive outlet even when the world looked grim.
Thank you for all your business and encouragement!
I truly appreciate each one of you, and am so thankful for your support that kept this small business growing during the pandemic.

I turned 39 last week...but that didn't prevent me from shamelessly making infotainment videos for you.
Let me back up. 😆
When I became a life coach, I had no idea how much there was to it besides sitting down with moms and having profound conversations to help them become the people they wanted to be.
There's marketing. And website-making. And newsletter-writing. And public speaking. And networking. And talking about yourself. And looking for partnerships to expand the circle of people who know about you.
Anyway - when Instagram rolled out a new video format called Reels (its version of TikTok), I kept hearing what a great way it was for small business owners to get the word out about their businesses.
Plus, they can be super entertaining and silly.
So I tried making some Reels. And actually really enjoyed it.
Then one of them hit over 1,500 views and I just...froze.
I had ideas, sure, but kept overthinking them.
I wanted the perfect song, the perfect video clips, the perfect lighting, the perfect editing. I was putting so much pressure on the next video to be 'popular' that I just stopped making them.
Luckily, I know myself well enough that I was able to observe what was going on. I issued myself a challenge: Make a Reel a day for a week.
As a life coach, I knew that consistency and frequency would help me get over myself and get unstuck!
So, I did it! I skipped my birthday but made 6 new Reels in a week.
I learned a lot and wanted to share some of the lessons with you.
If you're curious, you can see all the Reels videos I've made here:
Is there anything you've been avoiding because you've built it up in your mind as needing to be a certain way?
Or maybe you're leaning into silliness and play, even though it doesn't come naturally?
I would LOVE to hear what's resonating for you
