A mom I'm coaching recently described her goal this way: "It's less about masterminding joyful opportunities, and more about doing the things we need to do to embrace the joy the day brings." Did you catch that? She wants her family to be more joyful. (She and her husband even decided a while ago they want their top family value to be joy.) But instead of shoehorning it into life, she wants to be in a place that allows her to experience joy that's already there. Profound. The more I thought about it, the more I recognized that this describes the work I've done with so many of my clients. More often what I'm doing is helping moms do the things they need to do to embrace the joy that's already there.
Everyday joys. So easy to miss. Tell me: what, practically, would help you embrace the joy the day brings? Here's what some of my clients have said:
Whatever your answer, I invite you to take that seriously. Self care isn't a luxury to be indulged in once the to-do list is all checked off ('cause let's be honest, that list is always going to be there!). Self care is the framework that holds everything, including your capacity to embrace joy. It's not a way out, it's the way through. (Thanks to coach Gracy Obuchowicz for this wisdom.) Your turn! What's a joy that's already in your life?
What would help you to embrace the joy the day brings?
